A Slice of Stunning Switzerland
Set on slopes by Lake Geneva, Lausanne is a laidback and liveable city. The views of the lake and dramatic peaks of the Alps are simply stunning, especially from Sauvabelin Tower in the northern woods.
Surrounded by vineyards, this is an outdoor lifestyle city great for sports including sailing, cycling and hiking. In fact, many international sporting governing bodies and the International Olympic Committee are based here. There is also an excellent Olympic Museum. In winter, Lausanne skiing options include the Jura Mountains to the north-west, and the Valais canton south-west of the lake.
By the lake (Lac Léman in French) is the Ouchy port area, home to many of the Lausanne hotels and restaurants. To the north is the Flon district, known for its lively nightlife popular with students.
The cobbled Old Town – the Cité – is a Swiss Heritage Site on a hill at the city’s highest point. It houses the castle and Lausanne Museum, both watched over by the multi-spired Notre-Dame cathedral. At the foot of the hill are 3 squares with markets, one of which – Place Riponne – is on the Metro.
This is the world’s smallest city with a Metro, an indicator of the wonderfully efficient Swiss transport system, meaning that Geneva Airport (the closest to Lausanne) is easily reachable.
The quaint city is an hour away from Geneva. Being on the banks of Lake Geneva, Lausanne is easily accessible to Evian by ferry. The lake edge is really stunning and allows one to spend a lazy day walking around. The Olympic museum is quite fascinating, and the aquarium at Aquaticusis very interesting for both adults and children. Do not miss the Farmer's market in the centre of town every Saturday morning where you can get some of the freshest produce possible.

We really enjoyed visiting the old town starting from the Cathedral, which although its undergoing restoration you can still go inside. The walk from the cobbled streets outside the Cathedral down to the train station is worth it, but you'll need comfy shoes to navigate the steep descent to Lausanne Station. The lakeside is a must see including the Olympic museum.

Try to avoid staying over on Sunday.
Try to avoid staying over on Sunday. All the shops are closed after 6 pm to 6.30 pm from Monday to Saturday and close on Sunday. So we feel wasted 1 day on Lausanne as it is Sunday. We only can walk around visit Churches and window shops on Sunday.

Lausanne is a fantastic city.
Lausanne is a fantastic city. The lake is simply stunning and if you are a tourist I think staying by the lake is possibly better than being in the city as it is so beautiful and changes all the time. The city has some nice upmarket shops and some lovely restaurants. There is a great metro service to get you up and down the hill and most hotels give you a free pass for this. There are lots of young people in Lausanne and all the restaurants and bars are very busy. We visited Montreux by train and Gruyeres by bus and Evian les Bains across the lake by boat.

I traveled to other places in France a Switzerland.
I traveled to other places in France a Switzerland. The train station is just 3 stops away from the hotel. The hotel is just above the metro station. When you arrive using the metro, you must take the elevator to floor E1. The hotel is just in front of the elevators to the left. Very well located! In Lausanne, we enjoyed the lake walk, the Olympic museum, the Place du Palau, the wood stairs. Just walking the city is relaxing. The cafes, the restaurants and shops are first class. We stayed 12 days and 11 nights. We wanted to stay longer. We love Switzerland ❤️

We used Lausanne as a base to explore around the East Lake, something it is well suited for due to the good rail service and the easy access to boats at Ouchy. We didn't explore all of Lausanne by any means but the area from the studio towards the castle and the walk down to Ouchy were very pleasant. Lausanne is very hilly so use of the metro (M2 for us) was almost essential.
the hotel staff was very nice and kind.
I lost my passport at a shop and it was kindly taken to a lost and found at a police station on Sunday when everything is closed in Switzerland and that made everything difficult for a foreigner figuring out to contact with authorities. This wasn’t their main job but the hotel staff who help me out with this made my first Swiss trip a good memory not a disaster.
the hotel was very comfortable and felt safe staying here.
The hotel is a traditional hotel with very elegant main lobby with plenty of decorative marble. It has a reputable restaurant (which was closed at the time of my stay) The rest of the hotel is well kept up and pleasantly decorated. Bedding is comfortable. It is conveniently located near the stops of the Lausanne metro to Ouchy. It is a short walk away from the lake and Olympic museum. Staff was very friendly, efficient and helpful.
The location was great, nice to be by the water and away from the centre of Lausanne. However, the metro was around the corner from the hotel and was very easy to use. The hotel provided a free metro card for our stay. The pool was lovely. The room was spacious and from the outside a very beautiful hotel. There are plenty of eateries nearby. There is off-road parking if needed.
From the getgo i knew this was a nice hotel. The staff is very friendly and easygoing, for sure party people themselves. The room, though small, was very complete, to the extent of a rubber ducky in the shower. Complementairy gifts and coffee on the room. In short, everything you need to get ready for and recouperate from a good night out in lausanne.
A small family run hotel in the old town of Lausanne. A short walk from the metro station. Very convenient for walking around old town and a short metro ride away from the ouchy lakeside. The staff was always courteous and helpful. Sent us the Lausanne mobilis card one day prior which helped a lot. The breakfast was great and freshly made.
The hotel reception staff is so nice. Location is great right by the station. Love the fitness center that you can access via the stairs. Breakfast is offered in the hotel plus lots of dining options just outside the door. There’s even a Starbucks downstairs next door and a late night grocery store COOP across the street.
Lausanne was fun, and the hotel is quite central. If you come by train you can take the metro (M2) right to the 'Ours' stop, and the hotel and its restaurant are right across the street. They don't do breakfast (although there is after all a restaurant) but there's a nice café right across the street.
Perfectly located for the station and getting around Lausanne. My room was very large and comfortable. Smartly decorated in a simple style. The bathroom was huge and modern. And the staff were friendly. Hôtel Victoria was perfect for me.
Loved this hotel. Huge room by European standards with a comfy bed, balcony and sitting area. Just across the street from the train station. I slept well and wish I could have stayed longer as Lausanne is beautiful. Would stay here again!
The hotel is a very short walk from the main Lausanne train station and a metro stop, it was perfect for us to get around. The staff were super helpful when our mini fridge was not working and we were looking to store some food in it.
-The staff at breakfast were professional.
- The room was also nice with a classic theme.
- The bed was very comfortable.
- It is cheaper than the German- and Italian-speaking part of Switzerland with similar quality.
This was a nice large room in an interesting hotel that is within 2-3 min. walking of the Lausanne train station. It served its purposes well. The staff are also very friendly.
Very comfortable hotel at a top location in Lausanne. The rooms are large and quiet. The breakfast was very good. All in all a very nice place to spend the night.
Charming property with well furnished rooms. Convenient location next to metro station to go to the port Ouchy or Old Town to check out the Lausanne Cathedral.
Great and spacious room. Staff was very gentle and everything was nice. Expensive but good value taking into account the prices of the hotels in Lausanne.
This is my favorite hotel in Lausanne because of the historic aspect and the location. There is nothing wrong, only a perfect place a spend a few days.
